Meet Dr. Richard Clabaugh
Dr. Richard Clabaugh was born and raised right here in Lincoln. With more than 15 years of combined experience as a general dentist and as an orthodontist, he’s committed to awesome, healthy smiles for patients of all ages, and he loves what he does!
Dr. Clabaugh admits he is a horrible dancer, but what he lacks in dancing skill, he makes up in being absolutely dedicated to your smile and experience so that you and your family feel welcomed, informed, and comfortable throughout your smile journey.

Dr. Clabaugh feels humbled every day knowing that people trust him and his team to help them on their smile journeys. And he’s honored for the opportunity to live out the Clabaugh Orthodontics mission: “We exist to improve lives by improving smiles.”
Dental Education
Dr. Clabaugh is highly trained and dedicated to your smile. He did undergraduate studies at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln before completing dental school at the University of Nebraska Medical Center College of Dentistry. There, he received his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree in 2009, graduating as valedictorian of his class.
Dr. Clabaugh then practiced general dentistry in Hutchinson, Kansas, before deciding to go back to school and specialize in orthodontics at Saint Louis University’s Center for Advanced Dental Education.
Orthodontic Education
Dr. Clabaugh again graduated as valedictorian in 2013 when he received his Master of Science in Dentistry degree and Certificate in Orthodontics from Saint Louis University’s Center for Advanced Dental Education.
After practicing orthodontics for a short time in Kansas City, Dr. Clabaugh and his family finally chose to move back to Lincoln to serve the community that had watched him grow up.
Board-Certified
You can trust Dr. Clabaugh’s skills and expertise knowing he has achieved board certification from the only orthodontic specialty board recognized by the American Dental Association - the American Board of Orthodontics.
This achievement is called the “Highest Commitment to Excellence” by the Board. Not all orthodontists are board certified, but Dr. Clabaugh feels it is important to demonstrate his commitment to his patients by maintaining his commitment to board certification.
Outside of the Office
Dr. Clabaugh and his wife, Heather, have been married since 2006. He thinks his most impressive life accomplishment might be having convinced Heather to agree to a first date and then finally having her say “Yes” when he asked her to marry him!
The Clabaughs have four children, three at home and one already in heaven. They love family bike rides, hiking, ice cream and chasing after their yellow lab, Sunny.
